What the fee covers
A commission pays for an agreed editorial assessment: reading or viewing, preparation and the specified written or video review. It does not buy praise, a minimum rating, audience reach, sales, or customer reviews on other platforms.
Honest judgement
Reviews may be positive, mixed or negative. The creator and their representatives do not approve the opinion or score. Factual corrections are welcome; disagreement with a verdict is not grounds to change it.
Clear disclosure
Every review commissioned through this service will carry a “Commissioned review” label and explain that the fee does not influence the verdict. A complimentary review copy and any relevant relationship should also be disclosed. Existing editorial reviews are not retrospectively described as commissioned.
Scope before payment
We assess suitability before accepting a commission. Fee, reading or viewing scope, format, timing, access, embargo, publication and quotation permissions are agreed before payment. For a series, the review identifies the episodes viewed. Any cancellation or refund arrangements are specified in the commissioning terms.
Conflicts of interest
Work by the reviewer, close collaborators or anyone with a material relationship must not be presented as an independent assessment. A conflicting commission should be declined or assigned to an appropriate independent reviewer, with any relevant disclosure.
Quoting a review
Agreed excerpts may be used with attribution to Critic.co.uk and a link to the review. Quotes must remain accurate and representative of the original meaning. A commission is not an endorsement of every marketing claim made about a work.
Your enquiry information
The enquiry form collects your contact details, role and information about the work so Critic.co.uk can assess and respond to your request. Submissions are stored in an owner-restricted workspace. They are not published or added to a marketing list by this form. Please do not submit manuscripts, passwords or confidential screener credentials. If a commission proceeds, access to the work is arranged separately.
